MOPGEL
is a national and independent organization established to join
other equality movements of around the world to break the conspiracy
of silence surrounding discrimination and violence against women,disabled
and youths.
Since
independent over 150 years ago, adequate effort is yet to be made
in
Liberia to address the issue of inequality and injustice that
women face as part of their everyday lives.
This
is coupled with the lack of training institutions.As the result,90%
of the country's population is illiterate in information technology
(IT), vocational and other income generating programs.Against
this backgrounds, about 80% of the population live below poverty
line while 85% is unemployed.
After
14 years of civil unrest,effort must be made to set-up development
in these areas.To do this, it is important to stimulate sustainable
initiatives for this relatively new approach: better education,training,advocacy,
and monitoring systems are needed. Sufficient human resources
must be allocated to the task and training is required to raise
awareness.
As
