About us

Two Liberian journalists, Mr.Hisenburg Q.Togba and the late John Q.Worjloh, founded the Movement for the Promotion of Gender Equality in Liberia in 2000. The founders decided the formation with the realization that cultural and traditional practices denied girls/women access to training and education, thus making women to lead the 75 illiteracy 40%. The founders decided to form a non-governmental organization in order to break the conspiracy of silence surrounding discrimination against women, promote gender equality and at the same time empower women, disabled and youths.

There has been no significant achievement since its formation because the founders fled the country four months after activities were launched due to persecution as journalists. Exiled in Ghana, West Africa, the movement is also registered under the Ghana Companies/organizations code December 2003 to begin activities at the Liberian Refugee camp.
